Our Personal Care Worker Traineeship is a great opportunity to work, get paid and learn on the job in a high-demand industry.

Applicants range in age and work experience, but all enjoy a thorough and supportive traineeship which includes;

  1. Orientation to our Better for life vision and orientation to our training partner Open Colleges - Open colleges works with us to deliver this traineeship and will undertake a small number of tests in this part, including a Language, Literacy and Numeracy test. This session also provides you with all the information you need to know about Southern Cross Care including, history, values and our Better for life approach.
  2. Manual Handling - Learn about studying at Open Colleges, and how to carry out your work safely to reduce the risk of injury.

After these two steps, you'll start approximately four weeks of paid buddy shifts. These are from Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Moreover, Accredited Training undertaken at Open colleges will begin four weeks after your Open College orientation. Now you are ready to start permanent rostered shifts, and help members of our community live Better for life. You'll also be required to attend Open Colleges every second Wednesday for training, and you will be paid to attend them.

Throughout this entire process, we offer mentor and job support to ensure you are comfortable in performing your roles.
