Fees & Funding
Southern Cross Care’s services can be funded in a range of ways.
This page provides fee and funding information about our Health & Fitness, Home Care, Dementia Cottage and In-Home Respite services.
There are two main types of funding - government funding and private funding.
Government funding
Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)
The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) is designed to provide entry level support services to older people in order to allow them to remain living independently at home for longer.
We can assist you to make a referral to My Aged Care to receive CHSP funding for services. Please call 1800 852 772 so that we can help you to have the necessary government assessment with a Regional Assessment Service (RAS).
CHSP funding is limited to specific geographical regions, time periods and service types. This means that from time to time, access to CHSP funded services may be restricted for some people.
Home Care Packages (HCP) program
Home Care Packages provide Australian Government funding for people with more complex care and support needs, to help them to continue living independently at home. Packages are provided at four different levels - with the level increasing from 1 to 4 as needs increase and more funding is required.
To receive a Home Care Package you need to first have an assessment by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT), meet the eligibility criteria and be offered a Package. For more information about the Home Care Package assessment process, visit the My Aged Care website.
You can also call our team on 1800 852 772 for help to apply for a Home Care Package.
If you receive a Home Care Package and choose Southern Cross Care as your package provider, you will have access to a wide range of high quality services and exclusive benefits across our services.
DVA services
The Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) can refer clients to our services. Referrals are valid for one year from the date of referral. We will work together with your GP to provide you with the right services to meet your needs and goals. No fees will need to be paid with a valid DVA referral.
Medicare
Your GP may refer you to our services on a Chronic Disease Management Plan. This will allow you to have five Medicare funded visits to the therapy services of your choice, including podiatry, physiotherapy, occupational therapy or exercise physiology. Our staff will work together with your GP to achieve common goals relating to your health.
Private funding
You may choose to pay for the full cost of your services. Usually this option is chosen by clients who are not eligible for government funding or those with an urgent need who are waiting for funding to be approved or assigned. Private funding can also be used to ‘top up’ services for those who have used all of the available government funding for services.
Your private health insurance may also pay for some of the cost of our Health & Fitness services, depending on your cover. Contact your insurance provider to check what you are eligible for.
