Fees & Funding

There are a range of funding methods available to you. Southern Cross Care provides a variety of funding methods for our health and wellness services.

Private Services

Medicare and Private Health Insurance rebates are available for our  Physiotherapy and Exercise Physiology services. Our rates are lower than your average private practice and not only are we cheaper, but our appointments are longer. This means we can get you back up and move more quickly. Just mention you will be using Medicare or your Private Health cover when you make a booking and we can typically arrange your appointment within a week.

In addition, our fitness and wellness group programs have very affordable costs and many people choose to attend these as private clients even if they don’t have private health insurance cover.

DVA Services

Referrals to our service are valid for 1 year from the date of referral. We will work together liaising with your GP to provide you with the right complement of therapy to meet your needs and goals.

No fees will need to be paid with a valid referral.

Medicare Services:

Your GP may have the ability to refer you to our services on a Chronic Disease Management Plan. This will allow you to have 5 funded visits to the therapy service of your choice. Therapy staff will work together with your GP, to achieve common goals relating to your health. Clients can use these plans at Southern Cross Care for Podiatry, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy or Exercise Physiology. Sometimes a range of services is requested within the same plan.

The first visit is free followed by a payment of $27 each for the following four appointments.

Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)

We can assist you to make a referral to My Aged Care to receive subsidised funding for services. Please call 1800 852 772 prior to assessment if you would like to receive this subsidy. A referral is required prior to commencing services, this generally takes around 2-3 weeks depending on urgency.

If there are urgent health needs and services cannot be delayed, please specify this upon booking and in some circumstances, we will liaise within the team to provide services prior to this referral being received if assessed as appropriate as per Department of Health regulations.

With a CHSP referral, My Aged Care contact centre will complete a screening over the phone and refer you to a Regional Assessment Service (RAS).

A RAS assessor will contact you to coordinate a time to come to your home to complete a comprehensive assessment and refer you to the services you require. You can specify Southern Cross Care as the service provider of choice.

If you choose not to have a home assessment, the RAS assessor can refer you to service over the phone, however, the preference is to have a home assessment, ensuring all needs are assessed and met.

If you have reduced hearing or are worried about understanding the assessor over the phone we can specify on the referral that you prefer a home assessment allowing for a family/friend/advocate to be present if you would like.
