At Southern Cross Care, we believe that every person has the right to experience good quality of life. Regardless of your age, location, economic situation, cultural background or health challenges, you should be supported to live a full and purposeful life. We believe that no matter where you come from, life can always be better, and we have dedicated ourselves to supporting members of our community to be Better for life.

Better for life is how we describe our approach to healthy ageing, and our commitment to quality of life. We understand that quality of life is unique to each person and is influenced by four key areas: physical health, social relationships, the environment, and psychological/spiritual wellbeing.

To help us achieve our Better for life commitment, we developed a Better for life framework which goes well beyond the requirements of the Aged Care Quality and Safety Standards. We are exceeding these standards by embedding healthy and active ageing principles into all of our services, and continuously improving our practice based on current evidence.

We have introduced gyms into all of our Residential Care homes, and employed allied health professionals, exercise physiologists and fitness leaders to engage and support our residents and clients in their personal health & wellness journey.

We also employ dedicated lifestyle teams in all of our Residential Care homes who work with our residents and their loved ones to develop a vibrant and ever-changing program of activities designed to stimulate and engage them.

These healthy and active ageing initiatives, combined with our early intervention programs, are helping our residents and clients to maintain and improve their health, wellbeing and independence. For many, the outcomes being achieved are truly remarkable, and John Mason is just one shining example.

John moved into our Oaklands Park Residential care home at the age of 72 following a major stroke which affected his ability to speak, walk, and care for himself. With the support of our compassionate and capable staff, John undertook a comprehensive rehabilitation program which included tailored exercise delivered on-site by our Health & Wellness promoters and Allied Health Professionals.

We’re proud to say that after just six months, John regained his independence and was able to move back into his own home.

At Southern Cross Care, we are committed to meeting all aspects of the Aged Care Quality and Safety Standards – but our commitment to our residents and clients goes well beyond this. Through our Better for life framework, we are committed to exceeding the requirements of these standards, and using evidence-based practice to improve quality of life for all residents and clients, through all of our person-centred services
