Wattle Grove Retirement Living is centred around the historic Scarfe House, which was built in 1882 by George Scarfe, a partner in department store Harris Scarfe. When George died in 1903 the house and property were sold at auction to a relative, Alfred Scarfe, who lived in the house for many years. The government acquired the house in 1957 and used it as a Teachers College until 1973. Today, Scarfe House has been internally transformed into two apartments and a community centre, while maintaining its historical charm.
