Your guide to Home Care funding
Southern Cross Care clients pay for home care services in a range of ways. This page provides fee and funding information, as well as a list of prices, for our quality home care services in South Australia, Victoria and Darwin.
How can you pay for home support?
There are two main ways that you can pay for home care support. If eligible, you can get support from Australian Government funding programs, with personal contributions determined by the government. Or, you can choose to privately fund your own services if you are not eligible for government support, or if you are on a waiting list for government support.
Funding options
Support at Home program
Support at Home provides Australian Government funding for eligible older people to help them live independently at home.
Funding is provided at eight different classifications increasing from 1 to 8 as needs increase and more funding is required. Our Home Care services team can talk you through how to best use your budget to create a personalised care plan.
The prices below **do not take into account your personal circumstances** or indicate how much you will be required to contribute to your care.
The amount the government will contribute towards the cost of your care depends on which services you access through Support at Home. If you have:
- clinical care services, including nursing and allied health, the government will pay for the entire cost
- independence services, such as personal care or respite, the government will pay at least 50% of the cost
- everyday living services, such as cleaning and meals, the government will pay for at least 20% of the cost.
You will be required to pay for the remainder of the costs.
The Support at Home program includes three short term funding streams to help you pay for:
- Restorative care - providing 12 weeks of intensive support to build strengths and abilities
- Assistive technology and home modifications that enable you to continue living safely at home
- End of life care - providing up to 12 weeks of intensive care at home in the final weeks of life
The short term funding streams can sometimes be accessed in addition to an ongoing Support at Home budget.
You need to receive an aged care assessment to determine eligibility for Support at Home. For more information about the aged care assessment process, visit the My Aged Care website.

Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)
The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) provides some funding for entry level support services to older people. It helps you maintain independence at home for longer by providing support for tasks you can't do yourself.
We can assist you to arrange an assessment for CHSP funding for services. Please call 1800 852 772 so that we can help you to have the necessary Government assessment.
Not all CHSP services are available in all areas at all times, due to the way CHSP funding is structured. Our Home Care team can tell you whether the CHSP services you are looking for are currently available.
If the services you need are not able to be funded through CHSP you may:
- consider private funding arrangements
- ask for a reassessment to determine whether you are eligible for other funding.
In 2027, the CHSP will transition to Support at Home alongside other Government funded home care programs.
Private funding
You may choose to pay for the full cost of your services. Usually this option is chosen by clients who are not eligible for Government funding or those with an urgent need who are waiting for funding to be approved or assigned.
For those who have used all of their available Government funding, private funding can be used to ‘top up’ services.
Your private health insurance may also pay for some of the cost of our allied health services, depending on your cover. Contact your insurance provider to check what you are eligible for.
Medicare
Your GP may refer you to our services on a Chronic Disease Management Plan. This will allow you to have five Medicare funded visits to the therapy services of your choice, including podiatry, physiotherapy, occupational therapy or exercise physiology. Our staff will work together with your GP to achieve common goals relating to your health.
