It’s perfect for individuals who prefer not to cook or maintain a home but wish to remain independent, active, connected and engaged in a welcoming community with the freedom to come and go as they please
Anyone over the age of 55 and retired from full-time employment can move into an assisted living apartment, so long as you are able to live independently. You must be able to mobilise by yourself and live comfortably and safely in your own apartment.
Yes, there is space for couples to live in our serviced apartments together. Some couples also choose to purchase two apartments to have a little more space. You can make an enquiry here to discuss options that will suit you.
Domestic pets are welcome in the majority of our communities, as long as prior written consent has been provided by Southern Cross Care. The organisation reserves the right to withdraw such consent should such pets cause inconvenience or annoyance to others, and the consent automatically lapses upon the death of the nominated pet.
A retirement village provides a supportive community for people over the age of 55. In many cases a village also provides affordable housing for older people with supports they need to stay healthy as they age and continue to live at home instead of moving into a nursing home.
Our retirement living villages and services are designed to support your independence. When you join our community, you benefit from:
- A low maintenance lifestyle, we take care of repairs, painting and maintenance of buildings, plant and equipment and common areas so you can focus on your interests.
- A friendly, social atmosphere with access to our community centres and onsite amenities.
- Easy access to public transport and essential services.
We may also be able to provide Support at Home services to help you maintain a high quality of life. Click here to find out more.
Finding your perfect community comes down to three key pillars:
- The setting - choose a location that reflects how you want to live.
- The village - identify the amenities that matter most to you.
- The surroundings - ensure the local area provides the services you need.

There are a few different types of costs for living in a retirement village with Southern Cross Care. There is the cost of the home, which is lower than the average price of a stand alone house in the area. There is also a maintenance fee which covers the cost of rates and taxes, insurance, repairs, painting and maintenance of buildings and equipment, use and maintenance of shared facilities, administration costs, cleaning of common areas, rubbish removal and replacement of hot water services. As these costs vary depending on where you live, there is a different maintenance fee for each village.
