Be Mary and be well

Be Mary and be well

Mary Mann has an irresistible personality, and her approach to life is something we all envy. Born on 15 January 1926 in Ireland, Mary met her late husband Ron, in Egypt in 1953. He served in the Grenadier Guards, an infantry regiment of the British Army and became a Sergeant. It led to the couple being fortunate enough to meet the late Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.

“There wasn’t anything special about it, she was just a regular person like you and me,” Mary joked.

“She was born into this world like you and I, but just happened to have a different upbringing.”

Mary said she’s lived a full life that included stints in Germany, Cyprus and Malta before she moved to Australia in 1970.

She arrived in Mornington , and said she has been in love with the coastal town ever since.

Mary enjoys reading but said she’s not a fan of crime novels because as she jokes, “If I wanted to read about crime I would read the newspaper.”

She puts her longevity down to a simple approach to life, and cheekily said there are some benefits to being 95.

“Well at my age, there aren’t many ways I can get in trouble,” Mary joked.

“But I’ve met hundreds of people in my life, all with their own unique story.”

“And I’ve just made my story by taking it one day at a time, and not complicating it too much.”
