Bucklands 20th Anniversary

Residents At Bucklands Residential Care 20th Anniversary

Late in 2024 Bucklands Residential Care celebrated its 20th anniversary.

The celebration included a presentation by Pastoral Care Associate Pauline, a speech by Southern Cross Care CEO David Moran and the classic singing of Happy Birthday accompanied by guitar.

The crowd also appreciated a slice of a huge chocolate birthday cake and joined in singing the song that the Bucklands team has adopted as their anthem.

The original Bucklands mansion was built for Albion Tolley and his wife Julia in 1881 and named after the Tolley family’s property in Herefordshire, England.

Albion was a wine and spirit merchant but after Julia passed away in 1885, he sold the property.

The next owner was successful miner and mine manager William Morish, who purchased the property in 1888.

The Morish family owned the property until it was sold in 1942 to L.C Keane, who turned it into flats that became neglected.

In 1950 the property was transferred to Quarry Industries (later known as Boral Resources) which restored the building and transformed the gardens into the company’s industrial and commercial headquarters.

Southern Cross Care purchased the property in May 2001 to expand services offered at The Pines precinct across the road.

Bucklands Residential Care was officially opened by Julie Bishop MP, who was the Minister for Ageing at the time, and blessed by Archbishop Faulkner of Adelaide in November 2004.

The following month a major logistical project was undertaken to move residents out of The Pines Lodge Residential Care into the new Bucklands facility.

The logistics included timing for crossing the road using the traffic lights and moving people with all levels of mobility.

The old facility at The Pines Lodge was then redeveloped into what you can see today.
