Excitement in the air in Mount Barker

Excitement in the air in Mount Barker

Years of dedicated planning and hard work  came to fruition with the official opening of the Oakfield Rise Community Centre on 27 September.

Around 100 guests including Mount Barker District Council Mayor, Ann Ferguson, attended and were impressed by the centre’s range of quality amenities.

Attendees were entertained by musical duo, Jazz it up, and for some it was their first time inside the centre.

It features a cafe, a health & wellness centre, a cozy TV lounge with fireplace, a library, billiards and activity rooms and a range of flexible and comfortable spaces for hosting gatherings.

Each element has been carefully designed to help Oakfield Rise residents enjoy a great quality of life with each other, their friends and families.

Oakfield Rise residents Kaye Ellen and Anne Campbell, helped Mayor Ferguson and Southern Cross Care Chairman, David Martin, cut the ribbon.

Kaye moved into Stage 2 of Oakfield Rise and said she was proud to be part of such a big milestone.

“It’s very exciting and I just really like the environment (of the Community Centre),” Kaye said.

“The Community Centre also helps you feel more confident to socialise.”

“(It helped) introduce new things to people that they probably wouldn’t do, I think that’s the good thing about this - you can also  learn about things here”

Anne agreed and said that she’s looking forward to using it as a place to get to know her fellow residents, and help connect the Oakfield Rise community.

Owned and run by Southern Cross Care, a charitable, not-for-profit organisation, construction of Oakfield Rise commenced in early 2018. To date, 45 villas across Stage 1 and Stage 2 have been built, with 185 villas to be built over several stages, and all expertly designed for retirees or those over 55 years of age who wish to continue living independently.
