A living legend with eyes on tennis gold!

Meet WWII fighter pilot, farmer, inventor, centenarian and all-round gentleman Henry Young.
He has set sights on winning gold at the 2025 International Tennis Federation’s Masters World Championships in Croatia… among other things on the to-do list.
He’s been invited by UK tennis player Pam McGrath to play mixed doubles in the over 90 division. Henry will have just turned 102 by then.
It’s an invitation he’s graciously accepted.
“I’m competitive,” he said, over his favored tipple of Farmers Union iced coffee.
This self-proclaimed “monument to the medical profession” - two new noses And many other things - leads a charmed life.
Born in the bayside suburb of Glenelg, Henry enlisted at 18, going on to join an elite group of airmen.
It was Henry’s beloved “match made in heaven” Madge, his beloved wife who passed away just last year, who guided his next important career move.
“I said to Madge, you can have me as a farmer or as a pilot. That’s how I became a farmer,” said Henry.
They settled near Keith, where the couple raised their family and worked the land.
Tennis was always in the background - a game Henry enjoyed but didn’t throw himself into until a few years ago. He got very good at it, very fast.
Last year Henry was invited to play at the Australian Open’s Battle of the Centurians before 15,000 people. Walking onto Rod Laver Arena, it was a dream come true - and another one for the history books.
Henry played against Ukrainian Leonid Stanislavskyi who was billed at the time as the world’s oldest tennis player.
When everyone compared notes, turned out Henry was six months older.
“I love it,” Henry said about tennis.
“Opportunities come to you and you have to grab them.
“It’s like trying to dive into a river. If the first time you can’t get across, you swim back to the shore you came from.
“Next time you swim out, you know what to do.”
Come October 2025 - Henry has that gold in the bag!
