Magic times at Myrtle Cottage

Magic times at Myrtle Cottage

Myrtle Cottage Community Respite received some glowing praise for its interactive projector system, the Magic Carpet.

Appearing on Ten News First, Adelaide’s 5.00pm bulletin, clients, staff and family members talked about its many benefits.

Client Rona McDonnell was filmed playing a quiz about national flags, and was happy to give it a positive appraisal.

“It certainly benefits me, and I like the educational aspects because you can go over it again to refresh your memory,” Rona said.

Fellow client Colin Sutton said he also enjoys using the Magic Carpet. “It’s good for your body to move it around,” Colin said.

“You put it (your body) here or there, and it keeps you fit. I also like dancing with the girls (staff).”

The Magic Carpet creates a multisensory environment by offering 500 interactive games, from soccer to quizzes or practising everyday tasks, all designed to keep the mind and body active. It’s one of many aspects of our award-winning Respite that employs a health-focused model that engages our clients physically, mentally and socially.

Our experienced staff work with clients to achieve goals, build social connections, re-engage with the community and rebuild skills.

Robyne Marr, whose husband John Marr attends Myrtle Cottage 1 day per week, also noticed the benefits of John using the Magic Carpet.

“I think that he (John) is at home because of the social interaction and the physical activity –it’s just helping with (his) mind and body to keep going,” Robyne said.
