Mount Barker’s future is on the rise

Mount Barker’s future is on the rise

A proposed state of the art gym and community centre are just some of the benefits on offer to residents of Southern Cross Care’s new $70 million retirement living development in Mount Barker.

The turning of the sod on 19 December by Southern Cross Care CEO Mr. David Moran, and Mount Barker District Council Mayor Ann Ferguson OAM, continues a 10-year development program which started with Oakfield Lodge Residential Care Centre, which was completed in 2016.

This sod turning commences the construction of 180 villas constructed in multiple stages, with stage one consisting of 22 villas.

The development will support approximately 140 construction jobs per stage in a big boost to the local economy.

The construction of a public walking and bike path from Hawthorn Road to Dumas Street will also draw more people to the heart of Mount Barker.

Southern Cross Care Chief Executive Officer, David Moran, said, “…it’s a privilege to be part of another milestone for the Mount Barker community.

“This retirement estate will offer residents an opportunity to rise every day surrounded by style and harmony, with a tranquil countryside outlook and with every local amenity at their doorstep.

“Our integrated Health & Wellness Services approach, and on site amenities will allow residents to enjoy a better quality of life across four key areas of wellbeing – physical health, social relationships, psychological health and the environment.

“Southern Cross Care is also glad to inject a significant investment which supports jobs in Mount Barker” Mr. Moran said.

The development will be co-located with Southern Cross Care’s Oakfield Lodge Residential Care Centre. This centre won the 2016 National Master Builders Association Construction Industry Award, the National Lifestyle Housing for Seniors Living – Aged Care Facilities Award, and the 2016 SA Master Builders Association Building Excellence Award for Best Commercial Building.

South Australian firm Buildtec Group has been awarded the Stage 1 contract.

Buildtec recently completed the final stage of the Southern Cross Care Riverpoint Retirement Estate situated in Noarlunga Downs.
