Pearl goes Hawaiian with Cancer Council Biggest Morning Tea

Darwin’s Pearl Retirement Resort residents embraced a Hawaiian theme for their September 2021 social event.

That meant pizza, (especially Hawaiian pizza) supplemented by the usual home-style cooking by volunteer residents.

And the dress code? Well, Hawaiian shirts and other vibrant outfits of course.

The Pearl social committee organises numerous special events each year. These range from four-course dinners to less complicated but enormously popular sausage sizzles. This year there have been dinners for Australia Day, St Patrick’s Day and Christmas in July.

A Cancer Council Biggest Morning Tea was held in July, with a parade of stylish clothing from local St Vincent’s outlets modelled by Pearl residents.

Clothing was sold to guests at the lunch and funds were raised for St Vinnies in addition to the donations made to the Cancer Council.

“We really look forward to the social events at Pearl. They’re a great opportunity to catch up with friends old and new, enjoy some excellent food, and listen to our resident Pearlers group with their specially selected programs of songs,” says one of Pearl’s original residents.

“And there’s also bridge, mahjong, table tennis, indoor games, singalong, aquarobics, movie nights, yoga lessons and lots more in the Leisure Centre.
