The Rise is reaching its peak
The final stages of the Oakfield Rise Retirement Estate are under construction and the community is thriving!
Residents of 58 homes in Stages 5 and 6 are receiving their keys over the next few months and building of the final 38 homes in Stages 7 and 8 is underway.
When completed, the Retirement Estate will include 186 homes, the popular award-winning Community Centre, and a community garden which is already highly productive thanks to the work of the gardening group.
Southern Cross Care’s New Developments Manager Alexandra Hall said Oakfield Rise residents have been very welcoming to their new neighbours as the community continues to grow.
“Residents have extended invites to their future neighbours to attend events and participate in activities, which is great because they already know some people before they move in,” she said.
“They already feel part of the community.”
The community is about as busy as it gets too, with the Community Centre at its heart and often filled with people attending every activity from bingo to mahjong, knitting groups, men’s and women’s dinners, a pool competition, a book club, fashion parades and quiz nights.
“They’ve started doing toasted sandwich mornings in the cafe, to encourage more social engagement, with 40 plus people at the first two events,” Alexandra added.
“With the new people coming in, they’re coming from far and wide - the Yorke Peninsula, the Riverland, even Queensland and Darwin, which is why the community spirit within the village is so important.”
Judy and Graeme Schwarz are two of the newest residents at Oakfield Rise, and they haven’t wasted any time settling into their new lifestyle. “As soon as we came here we felt as though this was where we’d like to live,” Judy explained.
Graeme added, “We’ve met some lovely people, it’s a very friendly place.” “We’re looking forward to the community activities that are run here and also to not have the burden of a large garden!”
