Better health and fitness arrives in Goolwa

To support older adults in the Fleurieu Peninsula to improve their health and wellbeing, Southern Cross Care has expanded the Goolwa Health, Fitness and Home Care.

As the populations of Goolwa, Port Elliot, Victor Harbor and surrounding areas have some of the oldest median ages in South Australia, it makes sense for the community to be able to access health and wellbeing services close to home.

An official opening ceremony was held at the Community Hub on 7 February, connecting community members with staff and showing them the services on offer.

Southern Cross Care CEO David Moran was joined by Mayor Keith Parkes of Alexandrina Council, Victor Harbor Mayor Dr Moira Jenkins and Councillor Angela Schiller for speeches and the official ribbon cutting ceremony.

Door prizes were given out

Locals enjoyed tours of the Hub, free massages, door prizes and a sausage sizzle.

The centre now offers a range of tailored exercise classes, one on one allied health services such as physiotherapy, short-term respite services all in one location. 

The friendly home care staff can also help with accessing Australian Government funded aged care services and using My Aged Care for support to continue living happily and healthily in their own homes.

Anyone over the age of 55 looking for services and support in the Fleurieu can pop in to the centre at 1 Wildman Street, Goolwa.
