The Secret to a Healthy and Fulfilling Life: Active Ageing

Carmelite Health and Wellness Outdoor exercise class

In Australia, more and more people are living full and productive lives well into their 80s and 90s by considering active ageing from early stage of their lives.

The main benefits of staying active and healthy as you get older include increasing wellbeing and participation, recovering from illness more quickly, reducing the risk of getting chronic disease, and preventing falls. Southern Cross Care's Health & Wellness Centres supports active ageing because of its potential to benefit the senior population.

One great example of this is the story of Bruce and Don. Bruce and Don have formed a strong bond through their use of our Care Car transport service. They first met on one of their trips to the Pines Health & Wellness centre, and since then, they have developed a friendship that has only continued to grow stronger. As a testament to their bond, they now attend our Stronger Today group class weekly.

As you can see, they participate in a range of synchronised exercises, showcasing their close friendship and teamwork. Their camaraderie is a true inspiration to others. The Care Car service, supported by our Community Foundation has given them a way to connect and maintain their health and wellbeing, and they are truly making the most of it.

Another story that highlights the benefits of active ageing is that of Johanna and Marika. Johanna and Marika were neighbours during their children's school years in the 1970's and had lost touch for over a decade. Recently, they ran into each other at The Pines Health & Wellness Centre. It was a joyful reunion and opportunity to reconnect.

Johanna and Marika soon realised that no matter how much time had passed, their bond was still strong. They both felt grateful for the chance encounter that brought them back together and are excited to see what the future holds for their friendship. This story highlights the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and the positive impact it can have on our mental health.

The importance of active ageing cannot be overstated. By staying active and engaged, you can maintain their physical and mental health, form strong bonds and relationships, and lead fulfilling lives. Whether you are recovering from an illness or injury, or just want a more active life, our group therapy and fitness classes and one-on-one health services could be perfect for you.
