The purpose for which funds are collected

Southern Cross Care (SA, NT & VIC) Inc is a charity registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). The Community Foundation exists to support the overall fundraising activities and goals of Southern Cross Care. 

Funds raised support projects and programs that align with the objects of Southern Cross Care in its Constitution. Current projects and programs include:

  • Programs that tackle social isolation and loneliness
  • Programs that help improve the quality of life of older Australians
  • Programs that promote the well-being and physical health of older Australians
  • Other projects and programs which benefit Australians, as directed by the Board in accordance with the Constitution.

 

Restrictions on collection hours

Southern Cross Care can only collect funds at the times set out below. Unsolicited collections at residential premises (door-to-door). 

We can only make unsolicited collection visits at residential premises (door-to-door) at the following times:

  • Weekdays – between the hours of 9 am and 6 pm
  • Saturdays – between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm
  • Sundays – between the hours of 11 am and 5 pm
  • Public Holidays (other than Good Friday, Easter Sunday or Christmas Day) – between the hours of 11 am and 5 pm

 

Unsolicited collection by telephone

We can only make unsolicited telephone calls in accordance with restrictions under the Australian Communications and Media Authority’s Telecommunications (Do Not Call Register) (Telemarketing and Research Calls) Industry Standard 2007.

We can only collect funds via unsolicited telephone calls at the following times:

  • Weekdays – between the hours of 9 am and 8 pm
  • Saturdays – between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm
  • We cannot make unsolicited telephone calls on Sundays or Public Holidays.

 

Unsolicited collection in a public space

We can only collect funds in a public space at the following times:

  • Weekdays – between the hours of 7 am and 6 pm
  • Saturdays – between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm
  • Sundays – between the hours of 11 am and 5 pm
  • Public Holidays (other than Good Friday, Easter Sunday or Christmas Day) – between the hours of 11 am and 5 pm

 

At an event

We can only collect funds at an event in the areas and for the time authorised by the organiser of the event.

 

Unsolicited collection at non-residential premises

We can only collect funds at non-residential premises in the areas and for the time authorised by the person in charge of the premises.

Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Christmas Day Collections on these days are prohibited unless made via 

the internet.

 

Receipts

We are required to provide a receipt on request for donations of $2 or more.

 

Ongoing donation agreements

Donors will soon be able to make regular payments of donations to us on an ongoing basis.  Further details will be available on the website or by contacting the Foundation Manager. All ongoing donations are required to be confirmed in writing. Any ongoing donation can be terminated by contacting the Foundation Manager.

 

Health & Safety Policy

We have a Health and Safety Policy for Charitable Collections that covers the following:

  • Collections in hot weather conditions where the forecast temperature is 37⁰ or higher
  • Collections where the forecast temperature is 40⁰ or higher
  • Collections in wet weather conditions
  • Suspending collection activities – volunteers
  • Controls for workers who work alone.

Underage Collection Policy - We do not use collectors who are under the age of 18 years.
