Support to Get Healthier at Home

Support to Get Healthier at Home

Telehealth services can help you live a healthier, more active life from the comfort of your own home!

Virtual services have changed the landscape of healthcare by enhancing accessibility to care and reducing the need for travel - which can be a major barrier to healthcare for some.

Southern Cross Care’s Telehealth Program

Southern Cross Care’s Health & Wellness services embrace the power of telehealth to extend the reach of allied health beyond traditional in-person appointments. The program is available to anyone aged over 50 years old and is ideal for times when it isn't possible or convenient to attend appointments in person. It’s also a great option for those who feel more comfortable exercising at home.

As well as one-on-one allied health sessions, our program includes enriching group exercise sessions tailored to various fitness levels. They not only promote physical health, but also foster a sense of community and support among participants, creating a virtual space for social interaction.

We also recognise the pivotal role of nutrition in overall health, so we extend our Telehealth offerings to include dietetics for nutritional support. Our qualified and experienced dietitians collaborate with clients on nutrition plans that address their individual health goals and needs.

Better For Life in Country SA (BFLCSA) Program

Older adults residing in regional Australia face considerable obstacles when seeking access to healthcare services, especially in comparison to those located in larger cities.

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) reports that Australians living in rural and remote regions have higher levels of disease and injury, shorter lives, and poorer access to and use of health services. Travel is a significant barrier to accessing health services, particularly for older adults who may no longer drive or may not be comfortable driving long distances. Without access to the necessary treatments and support, it can be challenging for individuals to maintain their health and well-being. The Better for Life in Country SA (BFLCSA) program was created as a means of bridging this gap.

Working in partnership, Southern Cross Care and the Country SA Primary Health Network joined forces to deliver the BFLCSA program. This exciting virtual program is open to all Australians aged 65 years and older and Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people aged 40 years or older, living in regional SA.

Exercise is critical to healthy ageing, and we strive to encourage exercise in a way that is accessible and convenient for our clients. The program provides Exercise Physiology services over a 12 week period. For the first six weeks, these services are provided free of charge. After that, participants will be charged a small fee for the remaining six weeks in the program, which will be determined by the type of Government funding they can access. Once finished the program, clients can choose to continue sessions via our Telehealth service that is available to clients all over SA.

Additionally, we help our clients become more familiar with their smart devices and technology, enabling them to access our services remotely with ease.

The BFLCSA program has received a great response from the community. We are thrilled to report that our clients have seen significant improvements in their physical abilities, including feeling stronger in their legs and arms, rediscovering movements like squatting and kneeling, and even gaining confidence in climbing up ladders.

We hope to improve the health and well-being of our communities and ensure that everyone has the support they need to be Better for life! If you would like to learn more about these services, please call 1800 852 772 or email connecting.services@southerncrosscare.com.au.
