Our services
Our Residential Care homes offer a range of high-quality services to support the health and well-being of our residents. These services focus on healthy ageing and quality of life and are delivered by our compassionate, multidisciplinary team. We work closely with residents and their families to support physical health goals, social relationships, and cultural and spiritual well-being. This page explains some of the services on offer in more detail.
24/7 nursing and care
At all of our Residential Care homes, we provide 24/7 nursing and care to support your health and wellbeing. Our dedicated teams are on-site around the clock to provide a safe environment and respond to medical needs as they arise. Our nurses and carers are experienced in assisting with the management of various health conditions, including medication administration and mobility support. This comprehensive care approach is designed to support all areas of your well-being, including your physical, mental, social and environmental health.
Fresh & nutritious meals
What you eat is so important for your health and overall wellbeing. That is why our Residential Care homes have onsite kitchens where our chefs and kitchen staff prepare fresh and nutritious meals. We can cater to the individual dietary requirements of each resident and offer a high quality dining experience in each of our homes. Our kitchen teams take great pride in their work and always strive to deliver delicious, nutritious and appetising food.
Lifestyle activities
Our Wellness & Lifestyle teams organise many meaningful and fun activities, events and opportunities for you to pursue your passions and interests. You can be as busy as you like by joining in on every occasion, or you can choose to only attend a selection of activities you are interested in. You can also request an activity be added to the monthly program by talking to the team.
Allied health, massage and exercise
To look after your health, manage pain and deliver exercise programs, we engage the services of many caring allied health professionals. They include Podiatrists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Audiologists, Optometrists, Dentists, Dietitians and Speech Pathologists. These qualified professionals can have a significant positive impact on your health and appointments will be arranged as part of your care plan. Each home also has a Health and Fitness Centre, a bit like a gym, where you can exercise with support from the allied health team.
Chapels
While Southern Cross Care understands and supports the spiritual, cultural and religious beliefs of all residents, our homes each also have a chapel for use by any residents wishing to attend a Christian service. Services are scheduled at the same time each week, but the chapel is available at any time for prayer or quiet reflection. Chapel services are run by a professional team of staff and volunteers who can assist you with your spiritual needs.
Higher Everyday Living services
From 1 November, 2025, a system of providing optional services for an agreed fee, called a Higher Everyday Living Fee (HELF), is in place. Residents and their representatives are informed of all costs of HELF services and must agree to them before any of these services start. Southern Cross Care offers Higher Everyday Living services that can lift your lifestyle to a new level, including a glass of wine or beer with main meals, a daily newspaper delivered to your room and ad hoc services such as bus outings and cafe purchases. Higher Everyday Living services are paid for in addition to the quality care and services you pay for through the basic daily fee, hotelling contribution, and non-clinical care contribution.
Cafés
Many of our homes have their own unique cafes, which are the perfect spot to catch up with your new neighbours. You can purchase daily cuppa made just how you like it or treat yourself to a delicious slice of cake, in addition to the three meals a day and morning tea which is provided to all residents. You can also arrange takeaway drinks or snacks for friends and family, which you might like to take to your room or to one of the outdoor areas to enjoy. These cafes offer great food and beverage options and are a hive of activity and positive energy for residents.
Bus trips and outings
Outings are organised as part of the monthly wellness and lifestyle program at each of our homes, so that you can continue to benefit from experiences outside of your home. Outings vary from month to month and are part of the higher everyday living services on offer. They are planned with your safety and enjoyment in mind. All you need to do is book with the Wellness & Lifestyle team, who can arrange for your payment for each trip booked.
Sensory and vegetable gardens
We want you to feel proud of your home and be able to engage in outdoor activities that bring you joy. That is why a growing number of our Residential Care homes have vegetable gardens that residents take charge of, cultivating and tending the raised garden beds to produce tasty vegetables used in the kitchen. Some homes have sensory gardens, which are wonderful ways to find stimulation, calmness and enjoyment in nature.
Hairdressing
We know you take pride in your appearance and want to maintain your style when you move into a Residential Care home. That is why our homes offer a professional hairdressing service so that you can always look your best. Bookings can be made regularly with the hairdresser onsite and payment arrangements are made directly with the hairdresser. If you wish to continue using your current hairdressing service outside the home our staff can help you to arrange transport to appointments, although you are required to pay for this transport.
